Read part one Return to the Old Paths
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” Jude 1:3
It’s not enough to talk about Jesus, grace, mercy and love. There are times when you have to earnestly contend for the faith, which literally means to go to war.
Take a stand.
“For the faith” doesn’t mean an active belief, but a body of truth.
Another way of saying this, “earnestly contend for the Holy Scriptures, which were once for all delivered to the saints”
“For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jude 1:4
“But LGBT Christians are coming into our churches in so many numbers…” The pastors who have said this are turning the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ!
There are times when the church must stand for truth and say to the world: We must obey God rather than man.
We have to go back to the old paths because they lead to the good life. Sometimes they are hard to find because they’re narrow and the way is hard. The easiest thing for the church to do is acquiesce.
But that makes the way harder to find. It makes the path even less clear!
So we must be a clear voice!
We’re 15 years into the second millennium and while our so-called intolerant views may seem old and antiquated, if we throw them out and stop clearing the weeds out of the path, if we don’t help people find the old path they wont make it because the way is to heaven is narrow and hard and there is only one way!
We have to clearly give them that one way, and that is the living Word of God.
Here are 3 reasons why we must stay anchored to the infallible, inerrant, unchanging Word of God
1. Its the word of God that gives you accurate truth. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,” 2 Timothy 3:16
Doctrine is needed so that we know truth.
We all need the Word of God as reproof to tell us when we’re wrong. If you think you’re above that or that its being rewritten, you’re in danger! It is scary to me that we have spirit-filled Christians that are saying that what scripture talks about as homosexuality and what we see as homosexuality today are different. Really?
In Leviticus God said, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” Leviticus 18:22
Does that sound like a same-sex relationship?
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9
How do you redefine that? Romans chapter 1 is even more clear “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”
What do you mean its redefined or different? It is the same thing.
What is curious is that we are not redefining adultery. We’re not redefining robbery.
Scripture gives us accurate truth! We have to stand by it and stop messing with it. Take it for what it says.
2. It keeps you from evil. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:9, 11
3. It brings great blessing. “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God…”
This literally means the blessings of God will chase you down and attack you.
“Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.“Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you.And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.“So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.” Deuteronomy 28:1-14
If you will faithfully keep my word!
