Did you have a secret place you’d go to as a kid?
I had a few when I was a kid.
My mom moved about every 3-6 months, whether she needed to or not, and so I was always the new kid on the block and one time we were living in inner-city Spokane, WA and from there she moved us to a farm.
That was as foreign to me as you can imagine. I used to visit my cousins on their farm. but I was a city slicker!
On this farm, if you could get past the bull, there was this creek and beside the creek was a huge willow tree that had the coolest place to hide. I went to my hiding place all summer long until we moved.
I loved to go there.
When I was in trouble I’d go there.
When I was mad at my sisters, I’d go there.
Maybe you have a secret place today as a adult. Maybe a favorite place on a mountain or out by a river or stream.
Did you know that God has a secret place for His sons and daughters and that He loves for them to come and meet Him in that secret place?
He has a secret place for you personally!
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Psalm 91:1-7
When God talks about a secret place, it doesn’t mean that God is trying to keep you from it, He is hoping that you will love Him so much and desire Him so much that you will seek Him until you find that secret place!
He wants you to uncover it!
He wants you do discover it!
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29
“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.” Psalm 27:5-6
“Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.” Psalm 31:20
“For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.” Proverbs 3:32
He longs to bring you into the secret place, so that what you share with Him in secret will be brought out in the open. He wants to reward you openly.
Isn’t it interesting that Jesus talked with His disciples so much about that secret place with the Father.
But it’s not just about Him dwelling in us, its that we learn to dwell with Him. It’s about relationship!
[Tweet “The most important things and the most valuable thing sin life come to you through relationships.”]
It starts right here in the secret place with Father.
It doesn’t just come from God’s Father-heart and a desire for relationship, its also a place of worship and surrender.
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” 2 Corinthians 6:17
He wants you to have a place where you come out of the busyness of the day and get alone with Him. You separate yourself to Him.
You will never understand the heart of Father until you separate yourself to Him.
