Why do you believe in Jesus Christ? Is it because of an amazing experience you have had; a physical healing, a dramatic deliverance from an addiction or a traumatic experience?
Do you love God and believe in Jesus Christ because you have found His Word to always be true? David wrote in Psalm 103:6-7:
“The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel” (NKJV).
The faith of Moses, and his confidence in God was rooted in knowing Him, His nature, His character, and His ways. The faith of the children of Israel was rooted in His mighty acts, His miracles, His deliverance, and His provision of water and manna.
They knew His mighty working, but they did not know Him! They continually needed another miracle, another demonstration of His love and mighty work or their trust and confidence was shattered, and they were ready to go back to Egypt, and slavery.
Where is your faith anchored?
Do you point to an experience or a mighty act of God?
Jesus was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead, do you point to that? How do you know that is true? Maybe you had an amazing experience when Jesus forgave your sin and filled you with His Holy Spirit.
Those emotions soon dissipated when trouble arose at home or at work.
How did you feel then? When Jesus did not heal the cancer or answer your prayer; when you have gone weeks without feeling His presence; to what do you turn for faith then?
Like the children of Israel, do you begin questioning God or complaining to Him? Is your faith shattered?
Yes, Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. He was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead on the third day.
Yes, God still heals diseased and broken bodies. He delivers from powerful addictions and sets us free from damaged emotions and pain-filled minds. How do we know all of this to be true?
Because the “God who cannot lie” (Titus 1:2) has told us in His Word and then we have experienced it.
His Word came first, then the experience. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (NKJV). The Psalmist wrote:
“Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have given me life.”
Psalm 119:92-93 NKJV
“Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts. I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep Your word. I have not departed from Your judgments, for You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.”
Psalm 119:97-104 NKJV
God’s Word not only gives us His promises that He will do might acts on our behalf. The Word of God reveals to us His nature and His character, so our faith is rooted, not in His mighty deeds, but in who He is and His ways.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God might be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
God has given His Word to us so we might know Him (doctrine); that we might know His principles and precepts for life (reproof and correction – what is truth and what is deception); that we might have moral values and good behavior (instruction in righteousness).
It is through the instruction and teaching of God’s Holy Word (Scripture) that men and women, boys and girls are made whole.
Their entire being, spirit, soul, and body are congruent and healthy. They are healed from damaged emotions and free from destructive attitudes and addictive behaviors.
They are taught moral values and moral behavior. They live good lives, with integrity, free from destructive behavior patterns.
When a culture and individuals are “unhinged” from the Old Testament and a thorough knowledge of the New Testament is absent, that culture and individual lives are built upon unstable stand. Jesus said,
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:26-27 NKJV
This is the extreme risk in the USA. We threw the Bible and prayer out of our education system in the 1960’s.
We have adopted a post-modern, deconstructionist ideology upon which we have build sixty years of culture, higher education, political systems, and moral values.
Even the Christian church is embracing the post-modern deconstruction ideology and teaching.
Yet we are shocked at the transgender, drag queen, TikTok, depraved behavior? We wonder and marvel at the total distortion of our news media, medical science, and the education children are receiving in elementary and high school classes?
Why should we be amazed at the delusion being fabricated about human sexuality and junk science when the decision has been made to build the culture and individual lives upon the sands of humanism, relativism, and pragmatism?
When there are Evangelical and Pentecostal pastors teaching a person does not point to the Bible for their faith but to an event or an experience?
When the source of absolute truth is removed, the door is wide open for the father of all lies to bring in “the lie” and “strong delusion” (2Thessalonians 2:9-12).
Jesus Christ said,
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV
When men, women, boys, and girls, build their life upon the Word of God, their faith and their life is anchored upon the certain knowledge of who God is and His ways, not just His might acts.
They build their life upon a solid foundation framed and structured with absolute truth and moral values.
“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways… How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You”.
Psalm 119:1-3, 9-11 NKJV
How do you know the Bible is the Word of God and trustworthy for building your life?
