When we think of church, we often think of a building.
But Peter said this about the Church:
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:4-5
The church is not brick and mortar. The church is people who have been restored to God’s original design.
He wants His church operating in kingdom authority and power.
Peter goes on to say this:
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10
If we are going to fulfill Christ’s command to go and preach the gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the leper, and cast out demons, we need to see ourselves the way God ordained us to be.
He wants us to march into the deep darkness of our culture of violence, immorality, sex trafficking, and terrorism and invade it with His light.
