We keep hearing about people and policy changes that will make America great again, but will they? What is it truly that will once again make America the greatest nation in the world?
Joshua faithfully led the people of Israel after the passing of Moses, leading them across the Jordan River and taking possession of the land God had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
He became deeply concerned whether or not they would faithfully walk with the Lord after his departure. He called the twelve tribes to meet him at Shechem, the very place God met with Abraham and promised to give to him and his descendants the Land of Israel (Genesis 12:6).
He called them to set their heart to serve the Lord. “Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:14-15 NKJV).
The people faithfully vowed they would serve the Lord. ‘Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods; for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God’ (Joshua 24:16-18 NKJV).
“So Joshua said to the people, ‘You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD for yourselves, to serve Him.’ And they said, ‘We are witnesses!’ ‘Now therefore,’ he said, ‘put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD God of Israel.’ And the people said to Joshua, ‘The LORD our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey!’ So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem” (Joshua 24:16-18; 22-25 NKJV).
As a seal and a sign of the covenant, Joshua wrote the words in The Book of the Law of God and he set up a stone pillar at Shechem.
The children of Israel faithfully served the Lord during the years Israel was led by the elders who knew Joshua.
A generation of Israelites rose up who did not know the Lord and they did not know the mighty acts God had done on behalf of their great grandfathers. They turned their back on the Word of God and worshiped and served the deities of the nations around them.
- They suffered droughts and pestilence.
- Nations around them invaded the land and subjected the people to domination and slavery.
- God sent them prophets and godly leaders who brought deliverance and freedom.
The people listened and obeyed for a season, but only partially, they did not turn to the Lord with all their heart. Their duplicity soon turned in to spiritual rebellion again.
Years of double-mindedness led the nation of Israel into total rebellion “because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant and all that Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded; and they would neither hear nor do them” (2 Kings 18:12 NKJV).
This rebellion against the living God brought devastating results.
- Their economy was destroyed.
- Invading armies conquered their land.
- Their children and grandchildren were made slaves or taken into foreign lands to live and work as servants.
Can you see the similarities to the USA?
Have spiritual cataracts become so severe we can no longer see the true condition of our nation?
It is no longer about great music with dancing, clapping, shouting, and singing that fills the auditorium; as if it ever was about those things.
It is no longer about large buildings filled to capacity with preacher-teachers moving the audience with powerful sermons.
The Apostle Paul warned, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables” (2 Timothy 4:3-4 NKJV).
We have come to such a time in America.
The church is gathering some of the largest congregations in the history of this nation, yet we have never been so far from God. We have the most skilled musicians and singers; some of the finest equipped auditoriums with sound and lighting systems that rival Broadway; preachers have become stars appearing on the highest rated talk shows.
All the while America has murdered 65 million of her babies; our sons and daughters are homosexuals, lesbians, and suffer gender dysphoria.
Congregants believe they can “hook up” on Friday and Saturday night, while having adult beverages, and then gather on Sunday morning singing and clapping declaring their love for God.
We have pastors who preach to five, ten and thirty thousand every Sunday.
They have their messages on podcast, live streaming and YouTube. All the while, “born again” believers are living together and having families without the covenant of marriage.
Fathers are addicted to pornography; moms are using prescription drugs at unprecedented levels; and teen suicide is off the charts.
Experience is elevated over righteousness.
Salvation is proclaimed without repentance.
Love and grace are emphasized without explaining the heart of man is desperately wicked and must be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Holiness is no longer a standard of living for the child of God.
And the results are devastating.
The USA has literally come to the day spoken of by the prophet Amos. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, ‘That I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD, but shall not find it’” (Amos 8:11-12 NKJV).
Make no mistake.
This is not a Democrat or Republican issue.
This national election will not resolve the economic, domestic, and terrorist problems facing our nation. The problem lies at the door of a backslidden church.
There will be no resolution to the national issues until the church experiences a fresh baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire of God.
That will not be experienced until the people of God truly repent of their lukewarm heart and seek the cleansing blood of Jesus to purify their hearts.
We must see the tens of thousands who gather at our churches on their faces seeking Holy God with their whole heart. This generation has never seen such a spiritual awakening.
This is the miracle that America desperately needs.
This is the healing power our young people must receive.
A spiritual awakening that will bring the true Pentecostal experience back to the church and cause the communities of our nation to cry out, “Men and brethren what shall we do?”
That is what will heal our land and make America great again.
