How can we make sense of the violence we’re seeing in the world?

We want to think that men are basically good, kind, and loving, but a verse in the Bible explains why one human being can commit such atrocious acts on another human being.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways,
Jeremiah 17:9-10
According to the fruit of his doings.
God wants us to understand that if pushed far enough, every one of us will get down to the evil that is in our heart.
We have all sinned, and this is the root problem.
