How did we get the Holy Bible – all 66 books?

The 66 books that make up what we know as The Holy Bible is called Cannon – which means measuring.

It’s like a ruler.

These 66 books have been measured, evaluated, and have been found to be the accurate word of God; and are the measuring of what someone says is from God.

Today's podcast is part three of a 3-part study on how we can be certain that the Bible is God's Word, not just the words of man or historical documentary. #foundational #Bible #God's Word #Gnosticism #Dan Brown #DaVinciCode

If someone claims to have a teaching from the Word of God, a prophetic word, or a message in tongues with an accompanying interpretation, you measure it by the Cannon.

How Do We Know The Bible Is God’s Word Part 3

  • The Old Testament was the first to be established as Cannon
    • Around 450-500 B.C. the Old Testament Cannon was established
    • Daniel referred to the book of Jeremiah as Scripture and was studying it.
  • The New Testament was completely written by 90 A.D.
    • 55-60 years after Jesus was crucified
    • The New Testament affirms it is Scripture
      • 1 Timothy 5:18 quotes Luke 10:7
      • Paul calls the book of Luke Scripture

“For the Scripture says…’The laborer is worthy of his wages.’ 1 Timothy 5:18 (Emphasis mine)

    • By 175 A.D. the entire Cannon was basically established
  • Gnostic writers’ claims are complete fabrication and historical rewrite
    • That Constantine forced the Council of Nicea to accept the 27 books of the New Testament
    • That he forced them to reject other Gnostic writings
    • By 175 A.D. Cannon had already been established
  • Cannon was fully recognized at the Council of Carthage with these 6 criteria
    • Is the writing done by a recognized prophet or apostle?
    • Is the writing done by someone closely associated by a recognized prophet of apostle?
    •  Can you read this writing and is there a good quality of truthfulness?
      • Does this writing declare what we already know to be true through other canonical writings?
    • Is this writing faithful to the rest of the Cannon?
    • Is what is written in this document confirmed by Jesus Christ or the original apostles?
    • Is this writing used and recognized consistently in the churches as sacred writing?
