According to Greek mythology the music of the Sirens was alluring and captivating.
Sea captains and sailors would hear the sounds of the beautiful music and wanting to hear more sail in that direction.
The sensuous strains would capture their heart and draw them into the dangerous waters causing them to wrecks their vessels on the rocky coasts.
Odysseus was curious of the Siren’s song but heeded the advice of Circe.
He instructed all of his crew members to fill their ears with bee’s wax so they would not be able to hear the alluring music.
He commanded his officers to tie him to the main mast and order the men to leave him tied there no matter how much he begged and commanded to be loosed.
As they sailed through the waters with the sensuous chords playing the air, the seamen could hear nothing but Odysseus demanded to be untied.
The sounds were pulling at his heart. But his officers made the ropes even tighter around him. Not until they were safely past to the dangers of the Siren’s sensuous songs did they undo the ropes that held Odysseus safe.
A Siren was portrayed in Greek and Byzantine art as a seductive woman with the wings of a bird.
Beware of This Seductive Spirit in the Church
Christianity has not embraced belief in a literal Siren and I am certainly not advocating Greek Mythology. Rather, I am using this story illustratively.
Proverbs warns against the alluring sounds of the seductive woman who would capture the undisciplined man and ship wreck his life.
“My son attend to my wisdom, and bow your ear to my understanding, that you may regard discretion and that your lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of an immoral woman drip as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil. But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, her steps take hold of Sheol” (5:1-5 MEV my emphasis).
“…to keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a seductress. Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, nor let her allure you with her eyelids. For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a piece of bread, and the adulteress will prey upon his precious life” (6:24-26 MEV my emphasis).
History is filled with the fall and ruin of men who could not resist the alluring lips and mouth of the seductive woman.
The song of the Sirens is not just mythological but a true weapon of the powers of darkness. A seductive spirit.
It is used to destroy men who have not “made a covenant with their eyes” (Job 31:1) nor guarded their heart with the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
Indeed, that is the very objective of this Luciferian music.
Allure the heart of a man, captivate his imagination and drive him to sail into the dangerous waters that will ship wreck his life on the rocks of moral impurity.
The headlines of ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, New York Times, L. A. Times, The Washington Post and every other news organization is filled with stories of leading men who are victims of “the songs of the Sirens.”
The #MeToo movement has captured the headlines and the emotions of millions of woman who have been victimized by unwanted advances of men.
What I find very curious is the women who are the major voices of this movement dress in the very manner Greek and Byzantine art portray the Siren.
They were dressed in all manner of “undress” at the Oscars and Golden Globes, all the while declaring Me Too!
What is that all about?
#MeToo is simply another Song of the Sirens.
The real objective is hidden in the shadow of supposedly seeking legal justice for objectified women.
Every day a new accusation makes the headlines.
Please, understand I am not diminishing the reality of boorish men making unwanted advances nor am I minimizing the severity of the pain and anguish such advances bring upon a woman.
Such actions should be punished and this behavior must stop in the work place and in the dating scene.
I am also not diminishing, as Angela Lansbury pointed out, the reality of those women who use their seductive song to advance themselves in the work place. Then cry foul.
The #MeToo movement has a less than righteous motive hidden beneath the multiple charges of sexual predation.
The true motive of #MeToo is slowly being revealed, yet unrecognized by the majority.
Sweeping changes are being forced upon the work place, industries, and institutions for gender and race quotas; all in the ideology of correcting the disparities in employment and institutional leadership.
These changes are forcing new rational in the boardrooms, human resource offices and hiring practices.
The best candidates and most qualified applicants are being moved to the bottom of the list in favor of hiring the correct gender and not hiring the dreaded Caucasian male.
The results of these practices are slowly being seen in diminishing competitiveness and scientific advances from the U.S. industry, education and craftsmanship of the workplace.
There is no clearer example than the team fielded by the U.S.A. at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The committee proudly declared they were fielding the most diverse team in US Olympic history… not the most qualified or the best winter athletes the USA had ever sent… but the most diverse.
The results are very visible.
But then, the U.S. Olympic Committee was not nearly as interested in fielding the most qualified athletes as they were in fielding the most diverse athletes by race, color and sexual orientation.
If that is the measuring standard, the U.S.A. placed first.
That is rapidly becoming the standard of measure in all boardrooms and HR offices.
Church, beware of the Song of the Sirens!
The seductive music is rising in the ivy halls of the Christian university and seminaries. It is even softly playing in some of the executive offices of denominations and the board rooms of churches.
The pressure is rising for the church to conform to political correctness and the culture.
“We must have more diversity” are the words to the music.
“More women must be in leadership, serving as university presidents, and in the executive offices,” is the second verse.
Under this pressure the biblical standard and prophetic warning is being ignored and those who do see it remain silent cowering in fear; especially if they are a Caucasian male.
When God created the human race, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit made the decision to create man first, then the woman.
There was a specific reason the man was created first; he would carry the right of the first-born.
He had the authority of stewardship over all that God had created.
God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper [ēzěr – one who contributes to the fulfillment of a purpose or objective] comparable [něgěd – one with similar appearance who stands on the other side] to him” (Genesis 2:18 NKJV my emphasis).
God clearly saw that it was “not good;” that it was not desirable nor pleasant; that it was not healthy for the man to be alone.
- He needed a companion; not a servant, not just a worker.
- He needed someone who would be equal in worth and value
- He needed someone also with a creative mind
- Someone with a soul and spirit to love and worship God with him
- A person who could share his successes and sorrows
- A person who could help him plan and strategize
- To be his partner in accomplishing the goals and visions
God made woman.
It is significant to note that God created woman his equal in worth and value; creative mind; and in skill. He did not impart to her equal authority.
That is what the Apostle Paul was referencing when he wrote, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to usurp authority over a man, but to be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve” (1Timothy 2:12-13 MEV).
The issue is not can women preach, teach, or prophesy.
It is very clear in Scripture they can and indeed the Word gives many examples of them doing so. The issue is the level of authority God gave to Adam and mankind and the level of authority He gave to Eve and to women.
Women are not subservient nor are they to be dominated by men.
That is not the meaning of “submissive” or “submission.” The Greek word literally means to be in rank and file; that is proper order of authority.
God has imparted to women gifts, skills, anointing, and ministry.
God did not give Eve the same authority He gave to Adam and women are not given equal authority as men. They are not to be in the highest offices of a denomination or movement.
Indeed, the prophetic word of Isaiah is still relevant today and it should be a warning to the church.
It was a time when Israel had turned their back on the Lord.
Sin was rampant and LGBTQ was accepted and openly proclaimed.
God declared into that culture, “As for My people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them” (Isaiah 3:12 NKJV).
I know, this is extremely unpopular and even hated by some.
That is because the Song of the Sirens is seductively alluring many to rocky shoals of destruction.
